When most people, especially guys, talk about Rani Mukherjee, they usually talk about how pretty or feminine she is. Or in guy talk "I would hit that". I wonder how they'll react when they see Rani with a mustache.
No, she didn't forget to go to a parlour and thread her upper lip! She'll be seen with a mustache for her role in Aditya Chopra's next film. Apparently she'll be playing a Mulan type character...of a girl that wants to enter a man's world and will do it through any means.
Except Rani is not saving the life of her ailing father in the movie, she's actually just a girl who wants to play cricket so badly that she'll dress up like a man to become part of a men's cricket team. Honestly, that sounds kinda cool.
And obviously, there has to be some gender confusion when one of her team mates starts falling for her but he'll be seriously disturbed because she's a dude but in the end of the movie when he finds out she's a girl, he'll be relieved beyond measure. I'm not sure if that final bit will be in the movie, but it's kinda expected from gender-confused movies.
Rani Mukherjee has still hasn't decided what she's going to do with the money she and Karan Johar won in 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass se Tez Hain' with Shah Rukh Khan. The last time she won money from Shah Rukh was on 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' and she donated that 25 lakhs to build an ICU to the Holy Family Hospital In Mumbai and she'll be inaugurating the finally completed unit today.
Nestle seem to piling on the insults however as they have not renewed their contract to have Rani as a brand ambassador, an official says,
"Our contract with Rani Mukherjee was due to get over and we were in the midst of planning new marketing strategies for our brand. It is then that we decided that we won't be renewing our contract with her,"
"Our new strategies include targeting the youth and Rani ceases to be any kind of a youth icon anymore. Her films haven't really worked out at the box office and we are looking out for someone who is very popular in this category. We are working out on a few options and a final announcement shall be made very soon."
Fanta has also dropped Rani from their campaigns recently...this probably makes people quite bitter as one of her friends announced,
"Rani is extremely disappointed by Nestle's unprofessionalism. They knew well that once the contract came up for renewal, Rani would increase her price. They wanted to go in for someone cheaper perhaps. They should be thankful that Rani has got their product noticed in last four years."
While I like Rani, but this just sounds like sour grapes. Also, since the chocolate only sells for 5 rupees, I see why Nestle might wanna cut some costs.
While most of us are content to laugh at the flailing careers of some of the actors and actresses in Bollywood, people like Aditya Chopra are really good samaritans, wishing to make the people around them a success.
Amisha Patel got to see Aditya Chopra as she was working for Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic under the Yash Raj banner and he's committed herself to get her career back on track. He signed her up for other Yash Raj productions and has forced the actress to pull out of Billoo Barber starring Shah Rukh Khan, where she played the wife of Irrfan Khan's character.
Even though Amisha's role in the movie was small, she took it because she'd get to have a few scenes with Kind Khan. Aditya was having none of that and made her pull out because according to him, she could only be a successful actress if she stopped taking small and inconsequential roles like her role in Bhool Bhulaiya. Amisha is flattered by Aditya's attention obviously, though Rani might have a few reasons to be concerned.
As for the role that Amisha gave up, that went to Lara Dutta.
Hey all, apologies for the lack of updates yesterday, I was dying, but now I'm not dead, so that's why I'm back to updating. It's surprising how much better you feel when you don't start hurling as soon as you sit up. Ah, lovely Joburg weather.
So for the first time in a movie and possibly for the first time in a Bollywood movie, Rani Mukherkee won't cry on screen. The actress is known for...well, every actor in Bollywood is known for sobbing their eyes out and since Rani plays an angel without emotions in her new film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, she won't have to put any glycerin in her eyes, or whatever they use to tear up. Do you know glycerin stings like hell?
Rani says,
“I think that was something that really made me do this film in the first place because it was my first film in which I will not be seen crying and for me that's wonderful because I have played so many characters who cry in each and every film, ”
“Kunal Kohli has saved a lot of glycerin in this film.”
So it is glycerin!
So here's one of the most recent trailers in which Saif Ali Khan's character explains the concept of tears and where they come from. I'm sure he knows well enough by now, having a girlfriend like Kareena. ;-)
Rani Mukherjee's new house has finally been built and by the sound of it, she is ultra-excited that the tension of house building and dealing with contractors is over.
"It was like three films by Mr Yash Chopra, Sanjay Bhansali and Karan Johar all being made simultaneously, I was going mad, "
Now maybe Rani won't be falling all over the place as construction is over and the house is clean. Before things had been sorted, Rani had tripped and fallen, hurting her thumb and because of filming commitments, never let it heal.
A source reports,
"Her thumb was badly hurt. For weeks she had to undergo physiotherapy. But before it could heal completely she plunged into cricket practice for her new film with Yashraj where she plays a cricketer.
So the thumb hasn't had a chance to heal properly. She has been going through a series of misadventures and that's why she has been keeping out of the limelight.
Earlier Rani got her office ready a year and a half ago. Now her home is finally ready."
And that also tells us what Shahid Kapoor's next movie will be about when he co-stars with Rani. Hmmm, Shahid the cricketer (I think), sounds good. Shooting starts June 18th.
Shah Rukh Khan has apparently given up on getting an audience by using real people in his show 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass se Tez Hain' and is relying on one celebrity couple after another to bring the ratings up.
After Priyanka and Harman, Karan and Rani, the next two on his show are Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The show involving them will be telecast this Saturday.
Saif was apparently tutored by his daughter but was teased by Shah Rukh when he had trouble answering and an impromptu interview was taken with Saif and Bebo revealing where they met each other, how did they fall in love and what do they do when they fight.
Obviously it's a charity event and Saif has pledged his winnings to the Naaz organization (Delhi), which takes care of HIV positive kids, while Kareena will use the funds for the aged and lonely parents from St. Anthony's Old Age Home, Bandra. Nice causes, contributing towards the young and old.
And for those of you who can't understand my delightful Hindi, Shah Rukh Khan is saying "You people are very bad kids"...which now sounds very grammatically incorrect as soon as I wrote it in English. Damn...oh well.
In a bid to increase his ratings, Shah Rukh is pulling in celebrity guests again for his reality show. Having already had Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra on, now he's brought in Rani Mukherjee and Karan Johar.
If you check out the promos, it looks really cute. Unfortunately, I can't embed the promo here for you (-bleep- theme) I'll send you to the source, so check it out here.
There's a bunch of songs in there (from Karan's movies) and Rani and Karan managed to win a decent amount, although the promo doesn't show any actual questions being asked. I did find Karan's clinging to SRK's legs quite funny as he begged for the answer. Obviously the proceeds are going to charity...
Rani and Karan were also punished for cheating and told to stand on their chairs and hold their ears while Karan confessed that if he hadn't become a director, he would have liked to be a hairdresser...um, can anyone say they're surprised?
Happy Monday all!
Sorry for the late update, just been kinda busy today. But I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I'm taking over SoggyCornflakes - Celebrities almost entirely, again. So that blog will be regular again, if you like reading celebrity gossip that doesn't involve Bollywood. The bad news is that because of that, SoggyCornflakes - Bollywood is going to suffer a bit and I'll be posting less. Not that much less though, so it's not that bad. I hope you like the new look blog and I'm hoping to keep it this way for a while (until I get bored again) but I like it a lot, even though the pictures aren't that big anymore. So onwards to Bollywood.
The rumours about Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukherjee had died down for a while, but now they're back, after Aditya very stupidly gave Rani a big diamond ring, to congratulate her on Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, which he got a first peek at.
I mean, it would have made more sense and been more subtle if he had given some gifts to Saif Ali Khan and Kunal Kohli as well, but since Rani was the only one with a glittering rock on her finger, something is going on again.
I know it's a shocking development...I would never have expected it from them -Roll eyes-.
Any regular SoggyCornflakes reader knows that I despise Sherlyn Chopra. I know despise is a strong word, but when you shudder at her pictures and cringe when you read about her, despise seems like a pretty good word. Sherlyn recently gave an interview and I think I understand her behaviour now...it's obvious that she's living in her own protected bubble of ignorance and she's quite blissful in there.
Sherlyn says that she's changing her image in Bollywood...except not that much.
"I don’t want any more of what I was doing till now. I want more class. I was the ugly duckling but now, I want things to get better. But this won’t be a bikini to bindi makeover,”
She doesn't seem to get it, does she? The ugly stepsister never turns into Cinderella. More disturbing stuff follows,
“I have bagged a 40-minute role in Yash Raj’s next film with Rani Mukerji and Shahid Kapur. It is not a cameo and I share a beautiful relationship with Shahid on screen. The director of the film, Anurag Singh, had seen my video Outrageous and the numerous wallpapers online. He told me that I’d need to glam it up in the film. I told him that I’ve done it all, only to be told that maybe, I have no idea what super-glam is. They are apparently in talks with Manish Malhotra for a makeover,”
You have got to be kidding me. This shows the continued decline of Yash Raj if they have to resort to hiring Sherlyn. Though it's going to take a lot from them to teach her that "glam" is not synonymous with "ho".
When asked if she had met with Yash Chopra, she replied,
“No, I haven’t, but I have had a brief encounter with Adi. I told him about many things, including my trip to Barcelona, and he just said, ‘Hmm, okay’ to most of the things,”
Probably because Aditya Chopra was thinking "Dear God, I used to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan...do you hate me so much now!? Why God, why?!?!"
“But I can’t wait to work on the film. Anurag told me that Rani and Shahid are amazing actors and if I want to get my act right, I better start attending the film workshops. We’ll be shooting from July and I can’t wait to meet Rani! I’ll probably call her Ranidi and the first thing I’m going to tell her is that I loved her in Black. Maybe, she’ll ask me to call her just Rani and not di!”
Is it just me or is this starting to sound like the diary entry of a sad little teenager? Ooh, maybe Shahid will even look at her! -EEEEEE!-
And the icing on this cake, she speaks about her new video and compared herself to Hema Malini,
“The video is called Dard-E-Sherlyn and it has some similarity to Dard kehta hai... I loved Hemaji in Sholay and this is my tribute to her. This might make me the dream girl of the twenty-first century!”
See, I told you she lives in her own little world. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go throw up...and brush my teeth...and wash my hands...and maybe stab myself in the eyes because I've read way too much about Sherlyn. Ewww...
Good morning all...man, it's not even morning anymore. Oh well, happy Monday all, hope you survived the weekend.
Let's start with a video...which means I have less to write. Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Amisha Patel and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic director Kunal Kohli gave orphan kids a night to remember when they performed the songs from the coming-out-soon movie last Friday.
Since the movie is about four orphan kids, it only seems appropriate. Watch the video for cast interviews and little clips from the evening.
