For all those who liked seeing Rishi Kapoor in those tight, sparkly white clothes, you might get a whiff of the past as Rishi joins son Ranbir Kapoor in his second movie Bachna Ae Haseeno in a updated version of the song of the same name.
There's a lot of maybes in this report however since director Siddharth Anand still hasn't asked Rishi to take part in the song. There was no guarantee that we'd even see that song unless it lived up to Siddharth's expectations...it did, now he just has to shoot the video, which obviously includes Ranbir, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Manissha Lamba.
Sid says,
"Though I'm too scared to ask him as yet,"
"The only time Yashraj have done separate music videos for their films is for Dhoom. It's the project that determines the promotion. I think we had a great title song and it was waiting to be used as a music video."
While Siddharth is looking forward to the release of the movie, he doesn't want to give anyone any expectations, except that Ranbir that is a very good actor. He's just going to keep it a light romcom film...well, you can never really go wrong with those...
Let's see, Ranbir Kapoor:
Movies acted in: 1
Hits: None
Price: 7 crore rupees plus per film
Shah Rukh Khan:
Movies acted in: +/- 66
Hits: +/- 20
Price: 20-30 crore per film
Akshay Kumar:
Movies acted in: +/- 87
Hits: +/- 15
Price: 20 crore per film
Ok, these stats are not perfect, I did almost no research on it but you can see the huge discrepancies with what Shah Rukh and Akki have achieved and what Ranbir Kapoor thinks he'll achieve.
A source reports,
"When TIPS approached Ranbir for Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, opposite Katrina Kaif, he demanded a staggering Rs.7 crore plus a share in the profit of the film,"
"It surely is the highest paycheck ever demanded by a newcomer in Bollywood. TIPS gave in to this demand and also got an oral agreement with him for 2 more films!"
Stupid filmi kids, now I hope Bachna Ae Haseeno is a flop...yup, I'm bitter like that.
Kareena Kapoor is really organised. She's already thinking wayyy ahead in time, regarding her relationship with Saif Ali Khan.
Recently, she responded to the allegations that Saif was stifling her and laughs them off, saying,
"That's so unfair, really. I'm doing five films.. he believes in doing one at a time. So, we try to grab as much time as we can get together."
"He keeps showering me with presents.. the best was a holiday in Maldives,"
And what other presents has he given her? Diamonds?
"Woh bhi diya hai.. clothes.. small trips.. but the most expensive thing that he has given me.. is his time."
This made me laugh though. When she was asked what presents she had given to Saif, she said, with a completely straight face, "Myself". Well, isn't she just delightfully confident?
When asked about their relationship and where it's going, Kareena replied that they would definitely be getting married, but in 3 years. How does she know what will have happened in 3 years? Saif could have found someone younger than her...she could have become fat...she could have found someone younger than Saif...the possibilities are endless.
Kareena isn't content talking about her own lovelife and has commented on her cousin Ranbir Kapoor's with Deepika Padukone,
"I'm so happy for them. I hope they'll be happy together. It feels so nice to have another Kapoor from my generation doing so well.
He was fantastic in Saawariya. He's here's to stay. I feel a sense of pride and belonging for him.The Kapoors and Khans are rocking the industry."
And even when talking about other people, Kareena still manages to bring herself into the conversation. You know, that's kind of a gift she has right there, the gift of humble arrogance...
Wow, even I'm surprised that this story is for real but it's coming from the horses mouth. Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are engaged! After dating for like 3 months, they've already committed themselves but 'shaadi itni jaldi nahee ho gee' (the wedding isn't going to happen that quickly).
Let's do this in some chronological order, Ranbir and Deepika meet, Deepika reports,
"It was love at first sight. We were introduced by a mutual friend and we liked each other but we needed time for our love to grow before we could make a commitment."
Ranbika evolves and media report that they are on the verge of break-up, Deepika says,
"At times it can be really upsetting. As we are open about our relationship, people should give some amount of respect to our relationship by not cooking up rumors,"
"Ranbir understands as he is a part of the fraternity. The gelling force of our relationship is that we understand each other."
And finally, the big announcement that Ranbika will be as one, as Ranbir supposedly proposed soon after the release of Saawariya and Om Shanti Om, Deepika says,
"And I happily said yes,"
So, what are they waiting for? Well, apparently their careers have to stabilize first and with Ranbir's next movie coming out soon, let's see if he's anything besides the Indian dude with the long hair from the filmi family.
Where does Deepika see herself in 5 years?
I haven't had a chance to make fun of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone for a while but they're back on the back page with the stories of their maybe break up...obviously they deny it.
After lots of media speculation that they had broken up, Deepika speaks out and reminds us all that they are definitely still together.
"Yes I have a boyfriend and we are happy."
"There is always a lot of speculation but that is something you have to deal with. We are together and I refer to him as my boyfriend."
And he refers to her as "time-pass". Just kidding, that is quite cruel. Possibly not as cruel as their Pepsi commercials however, since they keep trying to stuff that "Youngistan" crap down people's throats and if that isn't enough to piss you off, you'll get to see them in Bachna Ae Haseeno soon...still think I'm cruel?
Having a relationship is hard. It's harder still if you're an actor and shooting in different sides of the world. In that case you'll have to surprise each other by surprise presents and impromptu across the world trips. I feel like I'm writing a column on how to keep a relationship alive but this article is about John Abraham and Bipasha Basu.
The two have been in a relationship so long that we can't even remember the time when they weren't together. Since they aren't married, they're still making an effort to be romantic and that's why Bips has flown to Miami to be with John who's shooting for Karan Johar's Dostana.
"It's just for three days. My work got over on Monday in Switzerland, so I decided to rush to Miami for three days to be with John before I go on to my next shoot,"
Bips has been in Europe shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno with Ranbir Kapoor and it won't be long before she's off to Bangkok to start shooting with Neil Nitin Mukesh for new movie Freeze.
I'd make a stupid pun about Freeze and Switzerland and Miami, but I'd rather conserve my dignity as a blogger...until tomorrow, when I return with more bad humour.
The Zee Cine Awards took place this Saturday in London. Let's look at the winners while I rant about Shahid Kapoor not winning best actor. To make myself feel better, I put the video of "Mauja hi Mauja" up.
Best Film
Chak De! India - Aditya Chopra, Yash Raj Films
Yeah, Ok, this deserved the award. Was a whole new genre for Indian cinema, and for once, they actually pulled it off.
Best Director
Aamir Khan - Taare Zameen Par
Same idea as above. A new genre done well.
Best Actor (Male)
Shah Rukh Khan - Chak De! India
Not fair, not fair, not fair! For the first time Shahid Kapoor was nominated for best actor (I think), Shah Rukh had to play a role that wasn't his usual masala hero. Only consolation is that he got just as big a cheer as SRK at the awards.
Best Actor (Female)
Kareena Kapoor - Jab We Met
During her acceptance speech, girls were chanting Shahid's name. Not hard to tell who the real star is.
Most Popular Track Of The Year
Mauja Hi Mauja - Jab We Met
Obviously, good choice.
Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Male)
Govinda - Partner
What a crap decision! Govinda was the most annoying actor ever in that movie.
Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Female)
Shilpa Shetty - Life In A.. Metro
No comment
Best Actor In A Comic Role (Male/Female)
Vinay Pathak - Bheja Fry
Best Actor In A Negative Role (Male/Female)
Arjun Rampal - Om Shanti Om
Okie, Arjun was pretty evil.
Best Playback Singer (Male)
Shaan - Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya)
Best Playback Singer (Female)
Shreya Ghosal - Barso Re Megha (Guru)
Best Lyrics
Prasoon Joshi - Maa (Taare Zameen Par)
Best Music
A R Rahman - Guru
Most Promising Debut Director
Aamir Khan - Taare Zameen Par
Most Promising Debut (Male)
Ranbir Kapoor - Saawariya
Most Promising Debut (Female)
Deepika Padukone - Om Shanti Om
Most Promising Debut (Child Artiste)
Darsheel Safary - Taare Zameen Par
The rest are really obvious awards. Have a good evening all.
Bipasha Basu is acting in her first Bengali film Sab Choritra Kalponik, I have no idea what that means though and she's really excited about the role, because her character will be something very different from her Race avatar.
Her character is that of the submissive wife...you wouldn't think that she could pull that off but apparently, Bips looks very demure in a sari. A real sari I mean, not that what she's wearing above isn't a sari but I doubt her sari's the the movie will look like that. Am I babbling?
About the role, Bips says,
“The secret lies in not taking any of your onscreen images seriously. I am an actress and ready to be moulded into any character."
"I do work on each look and never agree to any look, if I’m not convinced about it. Indian or western, both looks can be sexy, and both can be de-glam. I can carry both with as much ease only because I have no pre-conceived image about myself and am open to experiment.”
Good morning all! Hope you had a great, relaxing weekend, because I didn't! Why do I only get a weeks worth of holidays? No fair!
Anyways, enough with the complaining, on with the Bollywood.
A few of the stories today revolve around the Lakme Fashion Week, where Ranbir Kapoor walked the ramp for the first time. Far from being nervous, he was confident enough to blow a kiss to girlfriend Deepika Padukone, sitting with his mom Neetu Singh.
Did he ask Deepika for any advice, since she was a model?
"No, I did not take any tips from Deepika before walking the ramp. I had never walked the ramp before. It was the first time for me but I was quite confident. It proved to be an excellent experience."
And what's with the funny golden face?
"Before I came here I didn't know that my face would be painted golden. Only when I reached the venue and sat on a chair (backstage) to get the make-up done, I got to know about it. But I enjoyed the whole experience."
Is it just me or is Ranbir very chirpy about the show? I hate chirpy people...especially on a Monday!
Not because she was way way way out of his league, but because he cheated on her. There, I already gave you the ending of the story. You don't have to read the next part if you don't want to...I wish I didn't have to write it.
A source says,
"Deepika is in reality a conservative cultured well brought-up girl with the right values. Her relationship with a cricketer fell flat in Australia where he was constantly cheating on her.
The heartbroken girl got a solid support system from Ranbir Kapoor at this point of time. They're both in a very happy relationship right now".
So the moral of the story...never date a cricketer...especially when you can do so much better. Especially when it's Yuvraj Singh.
But Ranbika seem quite content, with Deepika reportedly having moved into an apartment in Pali Hill to be closer to Ranbir, who lives minutes away from her.
