The Roshan’s are SO screwed!
Posted on April 10th, 2008 by tigger under Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, Shah Rukh KhanGuys, this is a lesson to you all. Don’t steal anyone’s songs because the day before your movie is supposed to be released, he’ll sue you for copyright infringement and then you’ll have no idea what to do, pull the movie to change the prints or risk defying a court order and face jail. Actually, that’s unlikely to happen to you, unless you’re going to be a director. Then just let it be a warning…don’t end up in the same situation as the Roshan’s!
Rakesh Roshan must be seriously disturbed at the moment, because Krazzy 4 is coming out tomorrow and after the copyright infringement case reached the courts, the judge ruled in favour of Ram Sampath, a jingle producer who claims that the tune of the “Break Free” song (performed by both Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan) was ripped off from a tune he composed for a cellphone ad.
The Roshan’s are desperate, their offers increasing hourly for permission to use the song, but the guy isn’t budging. Since film reels have already been sent overseas for international releases, Rakesh Roshan has a catastrophe on his hands, working out how to remove the songs before release.
And this guy’s lawyer is going to take them to the cleaners, he says that monetary compensation wasn’t enough, this was a battle of the big stars versus the small artistes.
“The SMS-s sent by Hrithik establish that they knew the music was not created by them. They have done this knowingly and deliberately.”
I honestly feel sorry for the Roshan’s. They’re facing a little stubborn man with a big greedy lawyer, not a good combination. True, they shouldn’t have copied the tune, but Ram Sampath seems to be looking for a huge amount before he let’s them go. It would be stupid if he insisted that the songs were removed, because I’m sure he won’t get as much as he would have if he had sold it.
Stay tuned, as news breaks.
Oh, and my MovieZen article about Shahid Kapoor and Aziz Mirza.
