Kareena is influential

Author: tigger  //  Category: Gauri Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif

Does it count if she influences me to hate her more?

Magazine Verve has done a feature article on the 50 most influential women in India. While it isn't a competition, just profiles on the 50 ladies, did they not have enough people to put in the list or was the writer on crack?

While I understand why women like Sonia Ghandi and Parmeshwar Godrej (she's a philanthropist, yes, I looked it up) have made it on the list, why is Kareena there? Why is Gauri Khan there? Yes, these women play a role in the entertainment industry, but it's not like they're even actors/philanthropists like Angelina or Bono. The fact that Katrina Kaif also made the list seems to be an insult to India...or is that just me?

I don't get this list. Anyways, Kareena appears on the cover of this months issue. Here's the idea for next month's feature: Most over-exposed celebrities...Kareena can appear on that cover too.

Tigger i felt the same before when i see actors in these lists. But reality is these people come under the section of arts. If my guess is true Gowri would be because offically she is producer for Om Shanti Om and this movie generated huge revenue. I read some where, Farah was listed in the top directors who made films which generate large revenues. I have seen last years “womens gr8 awards” something like that, i dont remember the name. Leading ladies of 25 segments were given these awards. Priety Zinta was one of them. Compared to the other women who got this award i felt priety is nobody. I feel its the same when some crap actors get “Padmasri and Padmabhushan”.

Hmmm, but Kareena only got onto that list because of JWM. Look at Tashan, hopefully she’ll go back to her string of flops and we can stop reading about her.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what’s “Padmasri and Padmabhushan”?

Tigger Padmasri and Padmabhushan are the awards by indian government . President of india give away these awards on special ceremony to personalities in all sectors for their service to the country. They are very pretigious and i dont like these crap actors receiving them along with legends who really serve for the country.

t’s understandable that Indian audiences often wind up confusing promotional presence with cultural importance, since promotional presence seems to be the only gauge the mainstream media have for determining cultural importance. It’s meaningless to claim that Indian audiences “prefer” Kareena Kapoor or Katrina Kaif to say Konkona Sen or Gul Panag given that most Indians have been bombarded with advertising for those profoundly inconsequential artists(I realise I am taking a liberty in labelling the former two as artistes) but haven’t heard a word about Koko or Gul. Moreover, the very fact that reams of newsprint and lots of TV Space had to be allocated to their escapades actually helps demonstrate that the media bias in favor of dumb box-office behemoths but that doesn’t suffice to call them culturally more significant or role models at any level.

Oh ok, thanks Appu. You’re right, it isn’t fair that they should be commended for performing on screen in the same way that people who really make a difference are commended.

And I completely agree with you Spike.
