Farhan meets Robert De Niro…
Posted on November 25th, 2008 by tigger under Farhan Akhtar, Shah Rukh KhanAnd now he’s gone a bit gaga.
I guess I don’t blame Farhan Akhtar for wanting to meet Robert De Niro and I guess his slightly star-struck attitude is quite amusing. Farhan attended a function in Dubai only because he knew that Robert De Niro would be in attendance and he really wanted to meet him.
He talks about the meeting,
“De Niro turned out to be a thorough gentleman. Everyone there at the Dubai event wanted to meet him. What an ordeal it must have been for him to smile and talk to everyone. But he was so in control.”
“Shah Rukh who was with us was sweet enough to tell de Niro quite a lot about about my work. De Niro has given us his contact details where we’ll be sending him my films. I’m doing so right away.”
I guess it’s a big deal for a director who meets someone who inspires him and Farhan is lucky to be one of the few that actually meets their inspiration. Do you guys have someone who’s a role model or inspiration for you?

He’s not really an actor, although he did act in ‘Rock on’. He’s known for directing more…he did Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya and the new Don with Shah Rukh.

ohhhh. i love dil chatah hai. it’s one of my altime fave movies. so he’s an awsome director then. what are some of your fave hindi movies?

Hmm, my favourites are probably Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Ishq Vishk , K3G and Salaam-e-Ishq…with maybe JWM, lol, I love Shahid in it but Kareena annoys me, as usual.

Lol, what exactly do you mean by old? Yeah I do like DDLJ, but I don’t actually have a huge history of Bollywood, I only started watching in 2001.

oh. i mean movies from the 90’s. that’s old to me since i was born in the 90’s

I’ve watched a few movies from that time, mostly Shah Rukh Khan’s ones…it took me a while to watch anyone elses, lol, the first time I watched one of Sanjay Dutt’s, it was some gangster film…horrible film and I almost gave up on Bollywood.

I like Farhan but what’s with Bollywood’s obsession with De Niro ???
Agreed he is a good actor but c’mon he seems to be in everyone’s list of favorite actor…..a bit too cliched answer for people to say ‘I love Robertt de Niro”. Don’t our Bollywood actors know any other foreign actors or maybe it’s another “in-thing” of Bollywood.

You might be right Sarah, lol, it could very easily be an “in-thing” in Bollywood. There’s loads of directors or actors they could take inspiration from but they do seem to gravitate towards Robert De Niro…weird.
