Shah Rukh is in trouble

India's laws are interesting. You can totally get busted for smoking in public and that's whats happened to Shah Rukh Khan. King Khan, known for his disgusting habit, is in trouble for smoking in public twice and has been fined by the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE). Though the fine is just 200 rupees, which is nothing for Shah Rukh. Hah, it's even nothing for me. Not that you'd ever catch me smoking, unless it was being smoking hot. Yes, I'm a bit caffeine-high, ignore me. Other things of note that NOTE's achieved is making Amitabh Bachchan apologise for smoking in movie stills. Wow, score guys, way to make a statement. That's why there's only 200 million people in India smoking or using tobacco in some way. Telling Shah Rukh off is surely going to stop them all in their tracks!

  1. SoggyCornflakes - Bollywood | Shah Rukh Khan annoys everyone Says:

[...] he is by smoking around Farah Khan, even when he knows that she’s pregnant with triplets. Shah Rukh was told off by the National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) to quit smoking in public and, instead of accepting that he made a mistake smoking just said that [...]

Shah Rukh will not be in trouble but NOTE will be in trouble.

I am Vincent Nazareth, Chairman, Crusade Against Tobacco - a branch of the Neil Charitable Trust.

I delivered a letter today to Shah Rukh Khan (19.11.2007) that the Notification (Rules) which disallows smoking in stadiums/ bus stops etc have been stayed by the Bombay High Court in 2005.

It is NOTE who had done contempt of court by misleading the media for the sake of pure publicity and spoilt the image of King Khan by publishing his name and photograph in the media.

He has to apologise immediately to the media/King Khan other wise I will have to call a press conference

Um, thanks for telling us this Vincent, aren’t you a committed celebrity suck up?

You work for Crusade against Tobacco and you still tell Shah Rukh Khan that it’s ok to continue smoking in public? Dude, you really don’t get what crusade means, do you?

Oh and NOTE is not a “He”, it is an organisation, so you should address them as “They”. But of course you knew that.

Finally, the Cigarettes and other Tobacco act states that a “public place” means any place to which the public have access, whether as
of right or not, and includes auditorium, hospital buildings, railway waiting room,
amusement centres, restaurants, public offices, court buildings, educational institutions,
libraries, public conveyances and the like which are visited by general public but does
    not include any open space.

So whatever you may think, Shah Rukh has smoked in public and has broken the law. Sad huh?
