Mallika Sherawat,
Rahul Bose,
Tabu

Since I have readers who like Mallika Sherawat and since I like the readers, I won't go on my sad insulting spree again. Tabu and Mallika have never acted together (as far as I know) but directors are now preferring the screen-siren over more demure Tabussam (Yup, that's her real name).
The writer of
Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam, Cheel, says:
"I'm a writer. So I know exactly how to place an actor into a character. Yes, Tabu was to do the role. But the way I look at it now, the role is perfect for Mallika. If Naseeruddin Shah had done 'Black' wouldn't it have been different from the way Amitabh Bachchan played the character?"
Um, good point I guess. After the success of
Pyar Ke Side Effects, directors are hoping that Mallika and Rahul Bose can light up the screen again. Mallika won't be cast as her usual sex-bomb character either. Should be fun to see if she can pull this off.

I guess its always important to try and dissociate the real person from the persona. When you’re dealing with actors and actresses that is extremely difficult to do because they are dream merchants. So, it’s interesting to hear that while the on-screen persona of Mallika is as a flippant, sex-bomb, apparently she works very hard. So says her co-star Rahul Bose who admits to going to the sets apprehensive and being pleasantly surprised and impressed with Mallika’s total focus, no attitude, no tantrums, hardworking demeanor - “a delight”, according to Rahul. Life is full of surprises.

I just found out with no little astonishment that Rahul Bose is in the Indian National Rugby team and represents India. Rugby is one of the roughest sports because it is physical and there is no protective gear. Rahul also is big in social causes and has contributed time and money in Andaman & Nicobar Is aftert the tsunami of 2004. He is an A-grade actor and a director too. Like I said above, life is full of surprises.

Lol, so I guess that proves that we shouldn’t judge people by the length of their skirts.
Wow, Rahul plays rugby? But he’s always been a bit of a small and weak looking guy. Rugby players are usually huge! Ummm, though that would explain why India aren’t good at rugby…hehe…sorry, that wasn’t nice, I take it back, if you’re Indian.

Ha!Ha! LOL…maybe it wasn’t nice, but you’re allowed..Rahul in fact said that his teammates call him “pygmy” in jest, because he is only 5′6″, but he has been playing since his early teens and won his selection in the National Team on merit and is well-liked…this guy is multidimensional..oh, and he hasn’t dated anyone, even casually, since Koel Purie, four years ago, says he has no time…and neither does Mallika date anyone…interesting bedfellows (on-screen)….are you not Indian?
November 2nd, 2007 at 9:41 am
Lol, yeah wow. It is weird to see how these two behave. Doesn’t really match up with their on-screen persona’s. Hmmm, I’m starting to like them both more everyday, lol.
Erm…my ethnicity is a bit weird. Not that I’m not proud to be who I am, but I’m not going to shout about it on SoggyCornflakes. Lol, let’s just say I’m Indian enough that when they ask for race on forms, I’ll tick the ‘Indian’ box…I just don’t support any of the national teams, lol.

Is there a limit on the number of responses?
November 3rd, 2007 at 12:45 am
Holy smokes!! Tiggy: I think your theory about Mallika not wanting to kiss Himesh has been proven!! What insight!
According to celebs101.com, Mallika charged Reshammiya a lot of money for 10 minutes in his film “Aap Ka Suroor’ and had a no-kissing contract, yet she did Pyaar Ke Side Effects for free(!) and kissed galore with Rahul. She was reported to have said at a party celebrating the box-office success, “I got a great opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands”. Later, with success, Pritish nandy of PNC, the producer shared some of the profits with her. Rahul did not do it for free [he does not need to]. Rahul has said that hey both like to talk a lot - a couple of canaries!!
November 3rd, 2007 at 1:01 am
Sorry for the personal question…you’re Indian in my book, a lot more so than some “Indians” I have come across, who display a weird, dichotomous complex about things Indian. Keep trucking.
Looks like Mallika wanted to be in a movie where she could try a little acting instead of putting on the usual ass and boob show. Their on-screen chemistry is really very good, for an odd couple.

Good morning Locust my favourite reader!
Nope, no limits on the responses.
Lol, I guess that’s one way to take advantage of someone new in the industry. But I don’t blame her…I doubt anyone wants to kiss Himesh. And from what I heard, Himesh kinda sucks at acting (he sucks at singing too, lol). At least Mallika has a niche that she’s good at.
So it sounds like Rahul and Mallika are friends…and just friends. No off-screen scandals, no on-screen squabbling. That may be a first.
I don’t mind personal questions, and don’t have any problem telling you…just have a problem telling the rest of the readers (who don’t comment). So I take it you’re Indian…lol, don’t tell me, I’m just assuming.

Who else but us Indians would socialize in a weblog about Indian dream merchants? Who else but us would even spend time thinking about them?
Going to visit a monastery [yes, you heard right, a monastery!!] over the weekend. Talk to you soon.
November 3rd, 2007 at 10:42 pm
Lol, it is rather sad hey. But better to think about Shah Rukh Khan then Paris Hilton, right?
Ok, wow, have fun on your trip to spiritual enlightenment…or something like that. Just have a good trip, lol.
November 6th, 2007 at 7:41 am
Paris Hilton!@#$%^&…now don’t get me going…I see red. The good-for-nothing, cheap, talentless, ugly, shallow, useless…..
November 6th, 2007 at 10:10 am
LMAO! Breathe Locust. Though I completely see your point. If there’s anyone in the world who is a waste of oxygen and tabloid space, it’s that coke-sniffing wannabe…stupid, annoying…lol, now look, I started.
How was your weekend?
November 8th, 2007 at 1:48 am
Enlightening.
November 8th, 2007 at 1:49 am
By the way, why are there so many versions of my previous comment all mix mashed together? Internet issues?
November 8th, 2007 at 10:08 am
Um, spamming issues I think…those comments went into spam because you put a URL in them…but then came out…ohkay, lemme fix this. I’ll keep the comment I like best, lol.
I don’t suppose you have a blog, do you Locust?
November 8th, 2007 at 10:11 am
There…gone. Yay for my masterful wordpress comment deleting skills…LMAO. I think I had too much sugar today.
November 8th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
You’re allowed…now that doesn’t mean you can bloat yourself on sugar every day…just kidding. No, I don’t have a weblog, I am content to comment on yours. Contrary to appearances, I don’t have much to say. Just email me if you want to say something off-line.
One last comment on our dynamic duo, promise…..until the next movie of course. Apparently, the pair have become, like you say, good friends. A report says that whenever they meet on sets, it’s teasing, banter, cajoling….no wonder they “hit it off like a house on fire on-screen” according to a report.
November 8th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Lol, I think I’ve spent half my life being hyped up on sugar. I wonder if there’s a name for my disorder…gotta wiki it…lol, besides hyperactivity I mean.
But Locust (and please would you explain your name? Lol, it’s cute, but rather unusual), you’re like despicably knowledgeable about all things Bollywood…or is it all things Mallika and Rahul? Lol.
And feel free to talk about these two all the time, I like them more every time you say something nice about them. But that’s so sweet about them being such good friends…I’m not a follower of the Hum-Tum-esque school of thought, lol, but you never know. Maybe it’ll develop into something more for these guys.
November 8th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Oh, and Happy Diwali. In case you didn’t see the first post :-). Have a great day and weekend.
November 9th, 2007 at 4:12 am
And a Happy Diwali to you too, although you are Muslim. May you beblessed.
November 9th, 2007 at 4:49 am
It is getting late, so I will just leave a teaser for now. When I get a little time, soon, I want to mention something that relates to a comment you made above. I ampretty sure you will find it interesting.
November 9th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Ohkay…and what makes you think I’m Muslim?
Lol, can’t wait for your comment.
November 11th, 2007 at 5:14 am
Why do I think you’re Muslim? Just a general impression from reading your blogs. It isn’t important. What comes thru in your blogs is that you are a human being first, and that’s what is important. Whether by default or because they are inherently so, the Bollywood people we seem to spend so much of our time writing and reading about are also the same. Being actors and actresses thay have big egos and basically worship their common god, money…as so many of us do.
Now on to what I really wanted to write about. You said above, “I am not a follower of the Hum-Tum-esque school of thought….”. I believe you without hesitation. In movies, folklore, books, stories handed down from generation to generation, cultural milieu, etc., romanticism is associated with and ascribed to women. The world’s best-kept secret is that the overwhelming majority of women are not romantic. It is men who are romantic although many may not be willing to show it. I believe that sincerely. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.
My name locustwillow..a locust willow is a type of tree. There are different types of willow trees, weeping willows.. .and locust willows. But I don’t think you get them in the country and continent in which you live.
Am I knowledgeable about Bollywood? That is for you and other people to judge.
I hope you had a Very Happy Diwali. And remember, I want your reactions to the above.
November 11th, 2007 at 7:37 am
I posted my comment twice but this wretched site keeps screwing up and not taking it.
November 11th, 2007 at 10:31 am
So sorry for the trouble…I assume this is your reply? I found it in spam…stupid wordpress. It’s been screwing around since I updated. Now I have to work out how to de-update it.
Lol, ok you got me. Subtlety wasn’t really my strongest point, so yeah, I am Muslim. Um, your point above is that actors and actresses are also human? Lol, I knew that. Most of them show alot of decency or humanity at times, and you have to admire those ones who don’t lose it completely after becoming rich and “successful”.
I don’t know about being romantic, lol, especially the way it’s portrayed in Indian movies. I think I do believe in love, but concepts such as “Love conquers all” etc kinda escape me. Though I love a romcom or chick-lit book as much as the next person. Guys are romantic? Ohkay, that I didn’t know…you sure you should be telling these secrets of malehood to the enemy? Lol, kidding. and my main point about “Hum Tum-esque school of thought” was that I don’t believe every male and female that become good friends are doomed to fall in love with each other.
I’ve heard of a Locust tree and a Willow tree…didn’t know there was a crossbreed, lol. Oh well, and that’s my new fact I learned for today. My nick just comes from Winnie-the-Pooh (mature, I know ;-)) and his bouncy friend Tigger. Favourite cartoon/books when I was younger.
So far the judgement states that you’re knowledgeable about Bollywood, lol.
Once again, so sorry about the comments. Next time, if it happens again, you don’t have to repost, just tell me and I’ll drag it out of spam.
November 14th, 2007 at 7:00 am
I think you misunderstood me. When I said human first, I meant just that, other things second (Muslim, Hindu, navel contemplator, South American,….you get my drift I’m sure).
I totally agree with you..love conquers all exists only in story books, teenage fantasies and Indian lore. Like anything else in this world, love is subject to change, and doesn’t remain the same. What is love anyway? How long does the rush of romance last anyway?
Oh, I see what you meant about the Hum-Tume-esque school of thought. I agree with you that not all male and female friends are doomed to fall in love, however, really good friends and not lovers may be somewhat rare, although for sure it can and does exist. What I was referring to when I mentioned Hum Tum was that it was a romantic story at the end, and Pyar Ke Side Effects is also a romantic story (almost from the gitgo), but it is very modern and apropos, not Indian lore. That is why I think you would appreciate it. Saket, the new director, Rahul and Mallika rock!
November 14th, 2007 at 7:05 am
And the background songs especially Jaane Kya, Pyar Karke (played during the credits) rock. They were on the Indian charts a long time. Also, a modern movie, no songs out of context, and only background songs, no sudden out of context jigging on the part of the actors themselves.
November 14th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Lol, if we knew what love was would there be so many divorces? I do believe in love and I think if it’s true love, then it can last you a lifetime…but I dunno. Being young and naive doesn’t really help my cause though, lol. So I’m just shelving love as one of life’s great mysteries…
I don’t know, I think you can’t fall in love with someone if you don’t want to. Like if your best friend is someone you love to bits (platonically) but for various reasons (different religion, race, whatever), they could be completely incompatible to you in a romantic sense…so why screw up a good friendship? And that’s the double risk of falling in love with your friend…if it doesn’t work out, you lose a relationship and a friendship. Not worth it…in my opinion.
Thanks for the recommendations…you’ll be so proud of me, lol. Guess what I’m listening to right now…Jaane Kya :-).
November 18th, 2007 at 8:12 am
Also, Dil Tor Ke Na Ja. PKSE songs were on the Indian charts for a long time. How did your exams go?
November 18th, 2007 at 8:17 am
By the way, do you like the songs? I will be giving you a couple of more reccos for movies tomorrow. And….of course I’m proud of you, you’re a good blogger, a terrific, humorous writer, a human being before anything else, you have your head screwed on right….
November 18th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Heard them all, lol, including the remixes. The PKSE songs were all really great (I listened to them so many times!), but I didn’t see why you thought Maula Mere Maula was so brilliant. Maybe I have to listen to it a few more times but I dunno, it was nice but not great. I didn’t see the appeal. Sorry
Exams still going, just one left though, which makes it the hardest to study for. But the others went well, surprisingly, lol. Guess I’ll find out how I really did in a few weeks.
Lol, awwww, thanks so much Locust. You really made my day. And seriously, thanks so much for reading this blog and taking the time to comment on it. It really is so nice and sweet of you to. So, thanks for being…um, yourself? Lol.
